When it comes to establishing oneself in a particular
career, most people pursue a line of work that falls within
the mainstream of employment. Some, however, don't quite
seem to fit into any of the more traditional categories,
and need to look toward jobs that are less conventional
or, at least, suited to match their particular personality.
If you happen to fall within the realm of those who just
can't seem to find the job that works best for them, take a
look at what motivates you or doesn't and seek out
employment that best suits who you are and what you're all
about.
If you're of the Type-A personality, you're probably best
suited for a career as an astronaut, architect, investment
banker, stockbroker, attorney, systems analyst, military
officer, management consultant, accountant, auditor or
pilot. Individuals of this type tend to be strongly
analytical and perfectionistic, with a great deal of
self-discipline and emotional control. More often than
not, this type of personality will attack a problem to the
point of becoming obsessive, in their attempt to find a
solution that may be elusive.
Individuals who like to work with their hands have a wide
variety of careers from which to choose, as well. Among
these are veterinarian, physician, carpenter, auto
mechanic, dentist, baseball player, chef, farmer, set
designer and avionics technician. Jobs such as these call
for patience, dexterity, quiet planning and the ability to
placidly work away at a project until its completion.
Those who are prone to careers in these fields tend to be
the complete opposite of their Type-A personality
counterparts.
Those members of our society who have an aversion to
dressing up in a suit and tie or dress and pantyhose
haven't been lost in the search for the perfect career.
Members of this group are often successful in jobs such as
zoologist, artist, firefighter, farmer, child care worker,
computer programmer, coach, actor, writer and
anthropologist. These people tend to march to the beat of
their own drummer, are creative and often loners. In
addition, they're usually non-conformists and, while caring
and somewhat outgoing, can also exhibit a tendency toward
the need for lots of personal space.
Career choices are plentiful for those who love people, but
the more common choices are teacher, career counselor,
psychologist, hotel manager, child care worker, fundraiser,
guidance counselor, human resources manager, physical
therapist and social worker. Warm and loving by nature,
folks such as these tend to be philanthropic and have a
cheerful countenance. Rich in people skills, they often
have the ability to make others feel comfortable and are
inclined to elicit a feeling of trust in those around them.
If you're the type of person who loves to be challenged, or
needs to have a lot of diversity in your day to the
point of unpredictability then you'd do very well as a
musician, small business owner, FBI agent, restaurateur,
advertising executive, agent, auto salesperson, promoter,
firefighter or police officer. Common characteristics of
these types of individuals include loyalty, dedication,
perseverance, creative problem-solving and the willingness
to go the extra mile.
No question, there is a job out there that will suit your
personality. Why be stuck in a position that does not
reflect who you are? Just study your own personality and
you will find a career that is taylor made for you.The best
career choice is the one that suits you best.
